Cindy Duncan is an elementary library media and educational technology teacher at Kéet Gooshí Héen Elementary School in Sitka, Alaska. She spent the first 15 years of her career teaching second grade before stepping into a broader schoolwide role that allows her to reach more students and support fellow educators through technology integration, literacy support, MTSS data-informed instruction, and coaching. An award-winning educator and recognized leader in innovation, Cindy also teaches university students through the University of Alaska Southeast, where she helps prepare future educators across Alaska.
She holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education in Mathematics from the University of Alaska Southeast, along with an AK Reads Act K-3 endorsement. Throughout her career, Cindy has been known for breaking molds, creating meaningful learning experiences, and helping students and educators see themselves as thinkers, creators, and problem solvers. Her work has connected her with educational leaders across Alaska, the United States, and beyond, and she is passionate about bringing those opportunities back to the students and teachers she serves in rural Alaska.
What Cindy loves most about her current position is the opportunity to make an impact far beyond a single classroom by supporting students directly while also helping colleagues grow. She is proud to have spent the last 20 years teaching in the same school she once attended as a student, now serving generations of learners in her small community and beyond. What she enjoys most about being an Alaskan educator is the resilience, heart, and innovation that define Alaska’s schools and communities.
